PSA- Reflection

Reflection On My Professional Practice

Now that your video is complete and you’ve had time to see the other videos created by your classmates as well as a variety of PSA’s online, what do you think about the job that you did? Were you actively involved in your group’s video production? Did you take ownership of the production and contribute something that was uniquely yours? What is your favourite part of the video? Least favourite? If you were to do one more revision, what would you change?

Our team’s PSA video about recycling was well scripted, filmed and edited. For this video production, I wrote the script for our 30 second video as well as the storyboard. What I contributed uniquely were my ideas on how to represent “recycling” and our team’s director approved of the idea I had. My idea was to represent recycling and the messege of recycling through a paper airplane and how that one messege can connect to many people. My favourite part of the video is how our director(Poya Alborzi) did an amazing job editing the scenes where the plane is thrown from one person to the other; it was done very professionally and he cut out the uneeded scenes to ensure that our video would not pass the time limit (30 seconds). My least favourite part of the video was little disagreements with the group and the director when we were filming the video; the group wanted to follow the written script but the director wanted to cut out and change some scenes. I dont think i would do another revision because if i revise the video I think would add more detail and probably end up lengthening the video or adding uneeded scenes. One thing I really wish to change though, would be the music in the video. Not much thought was put into the background music and the director kept disagreeing with my music choices and due to copyright issues with the artist, most of the effective songs we came up with could not be placed as the soundtrack for the video. If i could be in charge of the soundtrack for the video, i would put something less upbeat and something more mellow to have a better effect on the viewers (music sets the mood). Overall, i enjoyed my experience in contributing for making a video (this was my first time!) and i have a better idea on how to make videos in the future due to this wonderful experience communications technology has offered me.
